Nancy Leaves a Legacy at USP

On October 24, Nancy worked her last day at the U.S. Pharmacopeia. She decided earlier this year that she needed to have a year off from work to focus on the family and spend a bit more time with her mother. So, when the children started back to school she went part time to allow for a transition period at USP and this week she concluded her nearly ten years of service to developing the international work of the organization.

She leaves behind a strong record with the USAID contract that has been the main part of her job as well as several newer contracts and linkages with the World Health Organization, Medicines for Malaria Venture, the Gates Foundation, and many more international health organizations. She has helped spread the USP name to China, Cambodia, India, Nepal, Russia, Romania, Senegal, South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uruguay, and numerous other places around the world. When USP completed construction of its new headquarters building a few months ago they etched a map of the world in the glass wall facing Twinbrook Parkway--a pretty audacious statement for something called the United States Pharmacopeia. At her farewell lunch last week I pointed out that the statement made by the map has largely been made possible by the work of Nancy and the team she has led for the past few years.

She hasn't given much thought to what she might do next, but she has had queries from a number of places about the possibility of consulting work. For now, she will be content to rest and focus on getting Liam through his first year of high school and Lucy through her last year of elementary school, and making more frequent trips to Ohio. We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to attempt such a drastic change in our lives, but as I look back on our 12 years in the D.C. area I can only marvel at the success we have enjoyed here.
