Bill Promoted and Elected to Serve World Bank Staff
Bill has received several honors at work in recent weeks. In June 2005 he was reassigned to provide editorial services for the entire department rather than just one division. Just before Christmas, he was officially promoted to Senior Policy Writer, a job that he had to compete for to keep. The job gives him considerable responsibility for the quality of reports produced by the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank. Some of the results of his work have made news this year, most notably a report on Bank responses to natural disasters, Hazards of Nature, Risks to Development, which he coauthored.
A few weeks before the promotion, Bill was re-elected by the staff of his department to represent them as a Delegate to the World Bank Staff Association, his third year in that role. The Delegate Assembly then elected him to serve as Second Vice-Chair next year. The Staff Association promotes and safeguards the rights, interests, and welfare of World Bank staff, while fostering a sense of common purpose in promoting the aims and objectives of the bank.
